Time really needs to slow down. Already it's the end of the second day of raya.
The first day was . . . far from uneventful. Even if my family only left the house at around 2.
It's tradition see, that every year, my dad's only remaining immediate living relatives, his brothers, come over for brunch which sometimes turns into lunch seeing that they're always late. They'll stay a while, talk, laugh extremely loudly, and my uncles, being my uncles, would grace their our sensitive ears with all sorts of wonderful colourful language.
Haha, ah well. What do we do? We only shake our heads, and laugh along. A leopard doesn't change it's spots so easy no? At least they're nice people . . . most of the time. . . okay, nice to whoever they like and likes them back. Ah, yes, that's right. Hehe.
I fared poorly this year. Very few envelopes, because of the even fewer houses we went to. But we covered all the ' must go on first day ' houses.
I didn't even end up going home. I slept over my aunt's house, with Dee, Shahid and Alisha. My aunt and i ended up talking into the wee hours of the morning.
Hehe.
Today was spent snacking, studying, trying to study, pretending to study, snacking some more, then being dragged to the shops in front to go to Macs with Mumtaz coz the lil naughty wanted her sundae. It was raining for God's sake, but she still had to have her ice-cream.
hah, i'm no better. I ended up stopping by 7/11 for a bottle of bunderberg rootbeer and ice coffee, mocha flavoured^_^
Ne, you know what? If there's one thing i like about Anime and well, the japanese culture on the whole really, is the amount of respect they have between kouhai s ( Mary, spelling? ) and senpai s.
Coming from a madrasah, there's always this mutual respect between those above you and those younger. The lowerclassmen would respect the upperclassmen, and vice versa. Respect those above you, and love those beneath you, ne?
But that perception is rapidly diminishing. Soon to be a forgotten culture. Primary school students are no better than un-islamically educated school children, if not worse. They're rude, despite having all those islamic values drummed into their heads on a daily basis, and they seem to have developed an affinity for shouting out cuss words at you.
It's not just that, but, it's like the enmity we have between the sec 4s and sec 3s. To us, they're a bunch of disrespectful, arrogant brats, and to them, we don't need to be respected really.
I like how the kouhais look up to their senpais, the fact they have that extra name at the back of their real name, as if to set a boundary between them. They're names are like ways to show how close you are to someone. The -san,-kun,-chan,-senpai, everything.
We no longer have that. And i don't expect anyone who doesn't have madrasah education to understand. I mentioned it once to my tution teacher and my cousin, but they didn't get it. They're mentality is, why do the upperclassmen expect the respect they want anyway? What right do they have for that respect?
That's exactly how the sec 3s, and everyone else below them are thinking now. Gone is the unquestioned awe you have for the older. That's just it. If you have to respect your parents, aunts, uncles, random strangers on the street just because of the age difference between you, then what's the difference? It's just as significant seeing that you see us everyday anyway.
I don't know. But that's just it, with our batch gone, it seems as though all the previous traditions of madrasah life is pretty much exhausted as well. Almost as though we were the last ones who were even upholding them to begin with.
Sad, no?
